June 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to your Langhorne Rod & Gun Club June 2026 Monthly Newsletter. Our focus remains on sharing club-related news, events, and activities, along with the experiences of our members.

This month’s newsletter includes coverage and photos from several club events in May, recognition of two valued club members we recently lost, and a reflective and timely submission from club member Les Trzesniowski recalling his visit to Omaha Beach and the Normandy American Cemetery. We hope members will take a few moments to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day, the sacrifices made by so many who served our country, and the memory of two honorable veterans from our own LRGC family who recently passed.

We encourage all members to consider contributing to the newsletter. Whether it’s hunting, fishing, trapping, or experiences at matches and competitions—here or at other clubs—your stories and photos help make this newsletter more engaging for everyone.

To share your experiences, please contact us at editor@langhornerodandgun.com

⭐ From President John Terrell

Greetings LRGC Members,

Hoping everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend, despite the rain.

As we reflect on Memorial Day, we also remember two valued members of the LRGC family whom we lost during the month of May. Both were proud veterans who served our country honorably. Our thoughts and condolences remain with their families and friends.

We are moving along with the shipping containers. Everything has been removed from the old sheds and is being loaded and organized into the new units, thanks to Ernie and the Wednesday crew. Plans will be made for the removal of the old sheds in the near future.

We have removed the old swing set due to its age and condition, and it will be replaced with a new play set. Many thanks to Scott Russell for securing a great deal on the new equipment.

Plans are moving along for the LRGC Annual Picnic on Sunday, September 6, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, rain or shine. This year we will be serving Mission BBQ pork and chicken, along with many picnic favorites. There will be raffles for the kids, a water slide, a bounce house, great music, and plenty of food, fun, and refreshments.

Save the date! We will have more details in future newsletters and will be posting flyers for those who do not regularly read the monthly club news.

Many thanks in advance to everyone who volunteers for this event. Your help is always appreciated, and it is a great day for everyone involved.

Thank you as well to all of our members who volunteer throughout the year to keep LRGC running smoothly. Your efforts help make our club a special place and are appreciated by all.

Stay Well and Be Safe,
John Terrell

🕊️ In Memoriam

The Langhorne Rod and Gun Club family suffered two losses during the month of May.

Bob Sobusiak

Robert W. Sobusiak passed away peacefully at home, after a brief illness, on Monday, May 18, 2026. He was 79 years old. Born in Philadelphia, son of the late Walter and Alice (nee Wasielewski) Sobusiak, he was a Bristol resident for the past 42 years. Mr. Sobusiak was a graduate of Bishop Egan High School, Class of 1964, and was a United States Marine Corps Veteran, serving in Vietnam. He retired as a Union Carpenter for Local 1462 after 35 years of service. While a carpenter, he volunteered with his Union on several projects in the Bristol area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a longtime member of the Langhorne Rod and Gun Club.

Predeceased by his son, Michael Sobusiak, he is survived by his beloved wife, Regina (nee McGinley) Sobusiak, and will be sadly missed by his son, Thomas Sobusiak and his wife, Nadine; his adoring grandchildren, Vivian and William; his daughter-in-law, Maura Sobusiak; and his sister-in-law, Mary Jo McGinley, RSM. He was also predeceased by his sister, Adele Sobusiak.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, 11am at St. Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem. Interment will follow at 1pm at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown. Friends may call from 10-11am at St. Ephrem Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Global Health Ministry at globalhealthvolunteers.net.

Mike DeBonis

VFW Post 6393 Yardley Pennsylvania is at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. May 14 at 1:45 PM · Newtown, PA

Members of the post gathered together for the funeral of our beloved brother, Mike DeBonis. Mike was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the Army as a Military Police Soldier and a Life Member of the VFW.

Through his years of dedicated service as our Post Service Officer, Mike helped nearly 1,000 veterans receive the benefits and support they earned through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

More than anything, Mike was a friend, mentor, and advocate for veterans and our community. His impact on this Post and the lives he touched will never be forgotten.

He is greatly missed, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Rest easy, Mike. We have the watch from here.

The following article and photographs were submitted by club member Les Trzesniowski, recalling a visit he and his wife made to Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, and the Normandy American Cemetery in 2018. Given the recent loss of two of our veteran members, and with Memorial Day still fresh in our minds, we felt this thoughtful reflection was especially meaningful to share with the membership.

Reflections from Normandy
By Les Trzesniowski

On October 16, 2018, my wife and I had the opportunity to visit Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, and the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, overlooking Omaha Beach and the English Channel where the D-Day landings took place on June 6, 1944.

The cemetery, established near the site of the temporary St. Laurent Cemetery created by the U.S. First Army, serves as the final resting place for 9,389 American military personnel, most of whom died during the Normandy invasion and subsequent operations.

I remember the countless white crosses and the occasional Star of David stretching across the grounds. As my wife and I walked through the cemetery, I occasionally heard whispers from other visitors, but otherwise there was silence. It was an incredibly solemn place.

I also remember walking through the destroyed concrete battlements at Pointe du Hoc. The wooden ceilings, our tour guide explained, were still charred from the flamethrowers used during the battle. The surrounding grounds remained scarred with massive craters left by naval artillery shells. As tourists quietly walked the site, only the voices of the tour guides occasionally broke the silence while recalling the events that took place there.

I wanted to share a few photos from that visit to encourage reflection on the meaning of Memorial Day, and on the sacrifices made by so many in service to our country.

Respectfully submitted,

Les Trzesniowski

Hunter Trapper Education (HTE) Notice

by Frank Homer

Why Teach Hunter-Trapper Education?

Since 1959, hunting-related shooting incidents have declined drastically. Hunting is safe and getting safer, thanks to hunter education. By law, all first-time hunters and trappers, regardless of age, must successfully complete a six-hour hunter-trapper education training before they can buy a Pennsylvania hunting or trapping license. Individuals may take hunter-trapper education either through an in-person class or by completing an online class.

Legacy and Tradition!

During the last 15 years, Langhorne Rod & Gun Club has held more than 46 classes and has graduated over 1,140 students. We are actively seeking new Certified Hunter-Trapper Education Instructors to continue leading this important tradition of educating our future hunters and trappers. The Pennsylvania Game Commission is looking for knowledgeable and experienced hunters and trappers to teach both basic and advanced HTE programs. Volunteer instructors receive certification training, all necessary teaching aids, and materials including the easy-to-use, standardized curriculum.
Instructors must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. If leaving a legacy of safe, responsible, ethical hunting is important to you, please consider becoming a Certified HTE Instructor. All applicants must pass a criminal background check and child abuse clearance check. Contact the Pennsylvania Game Commission HTE Team at 717-787-7015, or at pgchuntereducation@pa.gov for questions.

 ⭐**Wednesday Morning Work Crew**

You probably know about the Monthly Work Party. Not sure how many members know that there is a dedicated group of gentlemen who gather each Wednesday morning to hang fallen steel targets, maintain the grounds, and generally address any issues required to keep the club running. Maybe a tall tale or two (ten?) when the work is done. Thank you for your efforts gentlemen! We need to come up with a name for these guys…
