⭐ From President John Terrell
Greetings LRGC Members,
We are finally entering spring and looking forward to some warmer weather. It has been a miserable winter, and it’s great to get back outside and see everyone enjoying club events again.
Thanks to Ernie Leossie and the Wednesday crew for taking care of snow removal around the grounds throughout the winter months. Also, thank you to the work party volunteers for enduring such inclement weather while continuing to get important outdoor work done—it is much appreciated.
The Blood Drive was held on March 28. Many thanks to Ken Jankowitz and John Freitag Jr. for hosting this lifesaving event. Many thanks also to all that donated. Please consider leaving room in your schedules to participate in future blood drives—your support is always needed and appreciated.
The Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 4, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Bring your kids, grandkids, and neighbors’ children—it’s open to all and always a fun day. The Easter Bunny will be there!
Many thanks to Scott and Teena Russel for hosting this event and for all their hard work in putting it together for the kids. They always do a great job.
There will be a Swap Meet & Flea Market on Saturday, April 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Tan Building. Please refer to the flyer included in this newsletter for additional details.
We are sorry to report that the annual Fishing Derby has been canceled this year due to Pennsylvania state regulations concerning contamination issues in Neshaminy Creek. This is beyond LRGC’s control, and we must comply with these regulations for the safety of all involved. Thank you for your understanding.
Check out the calendar for all of the events we have coming up this month at the club.
Hope to see you there!
Stay Well and Be Safe,
John Terrell

Red Cross Blood Drive 3/28 – Thank You to All Involved!
Ken Jankowitz and John Freitag Jr. poured their time and energy into yet another successful Red Cross Blood Drive held at the club on Saturday, March 28.
A total of 50 units of life-saving blood were collected—thanks not only to their efforts, but also to the generosity of the donors who took the time to give and support this important cause.
Thank you Ken and John. Thank you to all those who so generously donated.
PS – Next scheduled blood drive – November 21st.

Club Equipment Upgrade – Used Equipment Availability – John Deere 310SG Backhoe
As part of ongoing improvements to club equipment and grounds maintenance capabilities, LRGC recently upgraded to a newer piece of equipment.
The club recently upgraded to a new backhoe for grounds maintenance and improvements. The previous backhoe, which was used for that range work and grounds maintenance, is now available for sale on the Dealer’s lot. It is a John Deere 310SG, and there are some photos of it below.
Members or others who may have an interest in this type of equipment are encouraged to contact Ron Fortunato, Board of Trustees directly for additional information.
We appreciate the continued support of our business partners as we maintain and improve club facilities and the equipment necessary to do so.

Curious about trying Action Pistol shooting at LRGC but not sure what to expect? I attended the session held at the club on March 7 and included a few photos below.
Before shooting began, participants attended a safety briefing that reviewed the three stages and emphasized muzzle control, safe gun handling, and accurate shooting. The focus of the event was not on speed or scoring, but on learning and practicing safe firearm handling. Shooters were encouraged to slow down, focus on trigger discipline, and place their shots carefully.
The match director also reminded participants that, just as in real-life scenarios, only hits count and shooters are responsible for every round that leaves their firearm. First-time attendees received an additional safety briefing before the event began.
Overall, it was a safe, low-pressure, and welcoming event that was enjoyed by all.

Cowboy Action Shoot, March 28
Submitted by Les Trzesniowski
Cowboy Action Shooting is one of the fastest-growing shooting sports in the country, with hundreds of thousands of participants in the United States and over 80,000 organizations worldwide. It is governed by SASS (Single Action Shooting Society).
I stopped by to observe the Cowboy Action match (listed as Western Style Action Shooting on the club calendar) at our club on Saturday, March 28. Period firearms from the 1800s are used, and period dress is encouraged, though not required at LRGC.
Cowboy Action is a game of speed and accuracy. Participants use single-action revolvers, a lever-action rifle, and either a pump or side-by-side shotgun while engaging both steel and cardboard targets across multiple stages. Missing a target results in a five-second penalty, while shooting targets out of order adds a ten-second penalty. There is no prize money involved—it’s mostly about bragging rights, and the winners of each stage do brag…a lot!
Everyone involved shares a genuine appreciation and love for the Old West. It was a lot of fun observing the shooters and their firearms, and the overall atmosphere of the event.
If you have even a casual interest, I encourage you to come out and observe a future match—you may find yourself catching the “Western bug” and deciding to participate.

This Month in History
by Mark Lambdin
Historic Dates in Shooting, Hunting, and the Outdoors
Remington Arms Company Founded
On April 6, 1816, Eliphalet Remington II began manufacturing rifle barrels in Ilion, New York. What began as a small barrel making operation grew into Remington Arms, one of the oldest continuously operating firearm manufacturers in the United States. Remington rifles and shotguns became widely used by hunters, sport shooters, and the U.S. military, helping shape the development of American sporting arms.
Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act Signed
On April 16, 1937, Congress passed the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act, commonly known as the Pittman Robertson Act. The law directed funds toward wildlife conservation, habitat restoration, and hunter education. The program has generated billions of dollars for conservation and is considered one of the most successful wildlife management funding systems in the world.

Introduction of the Winchester Model 1894 Rifle
In April 1894 (introduced to the market in April of that year), the Winchester Repeating Arms Company released the Model 1894 lever action rifle. Designed by John Moses Browning, it was one of the first commercially successful sporting rifles chambered for smokeless powder cartridges. The Model 1894 became one of the most widely used deer hunting rifles in North America and remains one of the best selling sporting rifles of all time, with millions produced.
Notable March Dates in U.S. History

American Victory at the Battle of Lexington and Concord
On April 19, 1775, colonial militia confronted British troops at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts. The engagements marked the opening battles of the American Revolutionary War. Local militia forces forced the British column to retreat to Boston, inflicting significant casualties and demonstrating that colonial resistance could successfully challenge British regular troops.
Union Victory at the Battle of Shiloh
On April 6 and April 7, 1862, Union forces under Major General Ulysses S. Grant defeated Confederate forces led by General Albert Sidney Johnston and General P. G. T. Beauregard near Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee. The battle secured Union control of key waterways in the western theater and opened the path toward deeper advances into the Confederacy.
American Capture of Yorktown During the Revolutionary War Campaign
On April 22, 1781, American and French forces advanced against British positions in Virginia as part of the campaign that ultimately trapped General Charles Cornwallis at Yorktown. These maneuvers marked the beginning of the final phase of the Revolutionary War that culminated later that year with the decisive American victory at Yorktown.
